Your Hired

My oldest daughter who just turned 10 brought home a school assignment that asked her in essence what she wanted to be when she grew up. She was to write out her answer and to draw a picture of her performing that job. She wrote she wanted to be a server and drew herself inside a diner waiting tables. Having worked in a restaurant for many years this both made me chuckle and cringe all at the same time. I remember being asked those questions when I was a kid and my response was usually a pro football player. As I got older the career path I would have answered to fill in that blank changed but they were still usually pretty grandiose. What if that question was asked to you today…if you could do anything in the world anything at all what would that career be? CEO of some major firm, doctor, lawyer, world famous singer, movie star, professional athlete, astronaut, stay at home mom, Batman? What would be the coolest job you could think of doing what would that be exactly?

What if I told you that if you are a believer in Jesus Christ you already have the greatest job anyone can have on this earth. God’s word tells us we are ambassadors for Jesus Christ the Son of God! WOW! How awesome is that. We get to be a representative of the Lamb of God the One who takes away the sins of the world! We get to represent the Alpha and Omega, the Great I AM, the Good Shepherd, the Son of Man, the Messiah, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, the Prince of Peace, the Light of the World, the Bread of Life, the Truth the Way and the Life, the Living Water, the Gate, the True Vine, the Life and the Resurrection! God’s word says He pleads to those who are dead in their sins and trespasses through us! WOW! We get to tell people about the One who knew no sin but became sin so the we might become the righteousness of God in Him imploring others on Christ’s behalf to be united in a right and saving relationship with God Almighty! How cool is that. And you want to know the coolest part about it all? You didn’t get the job nor do you keep the job by what you have done, haven’t done, by what you will do or in the future wont do. The hiring had nothing to do with your resume, nothing what so ever. In fact think about it think about how many pages you would have to write when you came to the question have you ever been guilty of a sin? I don’t know about you but at that point I am pretty much putting the pen down and saying “not going get this one”. And what about references, who are you going to put down for that? Trust me the most up standing individual you know has still got pages upon pages to fill in for the sin section themselves so anybody you think of would be a pretty poor reference.

The beauty of this position is that you didn’t receive this amazing job by the merit of your own resume but because of the resume of Jesus Christ. You see He submitted His resume and it was impeccable, He took His credentials and bestowed them upon you so you could get the job. So if you have placed your faith in Christ, guess what…your hired! Welcome to the team now get out there and represent our Boss and let me tell you something He is the greatest most loving and giving Boss you can ever have. Oh and the benefit package ain’t half bad either.

You know come to think of it maybe my 10 year old daughter had it right all along the greatest job anyone could have is to be a server; isn’t that exactly what Jesus was and isn’t that why He is such a great Boss to work for! Adam Mask Ambassador for Christ…it has a nice ring to it. Getting to tell people about Jesus…man I love my job! How about you? He is hiring you know, help is wanted, the harvest is ripe and plentiful but the workers are few. So what do you say fellow ambassadors…ready to get to work?

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.  For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him – 2 Cor. 5:20-21
